Southend United - Going, going, gone?
Need to pay over £1million by March 1st or face going bust.

As a Londoner, there's no rivalry with them and therefore think it's sad they could be the next Bury.

Essex Hammers, I'm sure you'll take pleasure in their likely demise, particularly Sold0 and his thousands of mates.

They absolutely hate us. Fuck knows why.? They been going under since the 90’s. The quicker they turn it into a supermarket car park. The happier the chavy locals will be.

They have been close to the edge a few times, haven't they? Did they start building the new stadium or was that idea scrapped in the end?

They should turn it into tennis courts so Sold0 will have somewhere to play

Yeah, a strange rivalry (on their part) to be sure.
Still, would be a shame to see them (as with aany other club) disappear.

A lot of West Ham fans have Southend as their 'second club'.

To fans of a 'second club'', it's very patronising and incredibly annoying. Think Arsenal fans and us.

I expect we won't be far behind in a couple of years with the dithering Daves at the helm.

Luckily, I don't have a second club. Well, maybe UD Lanzarote.
Just a shame to see any club disappear, imo.

I'm an Essex hammer. And I fucking hate southend due to their fans being dicks about us.

However, I don't want to see them go under.

This must be about the fourth time they've had some massive tax bill to pay at the last minute. They always survive, just.

Will be sorry to see them go under.

Used to work in Southend and where I live a good few people(or at least a few good people) I know support them. I have no real affinity with them. And the only real West Ham connection I can think of is that Bobby Moore was their football Manager for a short while and Brian Dear was the Catering Manager in the Shrippers Club for a good while longer

Played against their Reserve Side a couple of times at Roots Hall back in the 70s. The ground was a dump then. I don't suppose it has improved much.

There has always been talk about them moving to a new ground and Roots Hall being sold for development. Looks like just the latter will happen now.

What is wrong with the local council in Southend?

They seem to be cursed with the long term syndrome of complacency and corruption that any safe seat has - be it Tory in this case or something else.

Now that a stabbing incident has blessed them with city status you'd think that having a football club in a new stadium to put the place on the map would be an attractive priority. Brighton proved it can be done.

eusebiovic... yeah some truth there... think they have thrown all their eggs in one basket and concentrated on the Airport expansion... Vic Avenue was full of office buildings... Insurance, Government, Council... our was last to go... whole road now is full of flats... I'd say a good 10,000+ jobs gone from the area... that's 10,000+ not spending in the area... pubs... restaurants... shops... no wonder the High Street is like a fucking ghost town.

Anyway they have a lovely seafront now and a Airport with about 6 destinations...

The perils of falling in love with U.S economic policy eh? To copy guarantees the same result - you'd think we wouldn't be so far behind the curve in realizing by now.

Anyway, hasn't the airport been mothballed for a while now? Stagecoach can't afford to run it properly without a massive subsidy - I wonder who is paying for that?

Also I saw that the engines of the planes literally pump out their fumes into people's back gardens just a few feet from the actual runway.
